Satoshi Kon MANGA Selection vol.1 CURVE and Other Stories Japanese Art Book - Japanese Craft Book

¥8,500

Release date: ‎ 2022/12/21
Language ‏ : ‎ Japanese
Book: ‎ 208 pages

World-renowned filmmaker Satoshi Kon's works from his time as a manga artist will be published for 3 consecutive months in a different [wide version/raw manuscript version] format!

Satoshi Kon has received worldwide acclaim as an animation director.
Twelve years have passed since he passed away at the young age of 46 on August 24, 2010, and even now, his works have been attracting attention in various ways, being talked about, and being seen by many people. Continuing.
Especially now that 3D video creation has become commonplace, I think it can be said that the characteristics and value of being a ``videographer'' and not just limited to animation is increasing.

The basis of the current director's creativity lies in the ``manga'' he published when he was in his 20s.
Director Kon, who made his debut as a manga artist in 1985 and eventually blossomed as a talent while working in animation, presents a wide version [raw manuscript ver.] of the manga works he drew before he even touched the world of animation. It will be published continuously.

▼What is [wide version/raw manuscript ver.]?
"Wide version" = an impressive B5 size that is different from comics published in the past. This is a reproduction of the same size as when the work was first published in the magazine that was released to the world.
"Raw manuscript ver." = Printing (reproduced in one color) that takes advantage of the texture of the manuscript paper, such as the pencil lines and the shadows of the cutting and pasting, and also leaves parts that were previously cut and invisible.

▼Volume 1 Contents
The first part of the short story collection ``Dream Fossils - Complete Short Stories by Satoshi Kon'' (published by Kodansha), compiled after his death, divided into two volumes arranged in the order of writing. The six works included are ``Prison'', ``Curve'', ``Bakanosou'', ``Baseball Boy'', ``Kincho no Natsu'', and ``Focus''.
The title work ``Curve'' was awarded an honorable mention at the 11th Chiba Tetsuya Award and was published in Kodansha's Young Magazine in 1985, making it his first commercial magazine debut.
This is an action science fiction film set in the near future with a supernatural theme, and is an ambitious short story reminiscent of the introduction to a long story.
``Bakanosou'' is the last submitted work that won the 13th Tetsuya Chiba Award for Outstanding Newcomer. It is a youth comedy about a high school baseball team, which is completely different from ``Curve.''
The oldest work in the collection is "Captive", which is included at the beginning of the volume, and was awarded the Outstanding Newcomer Award at the 10th Tetsuya Chiba Awards. This work, which was probably painted in 1984, is a valuable amateur work that did not make his debut. Please note that this is not the case).
All of the works in this volume are from his time as a student at Musashino Art University (he graduated in 1987).
At the end of the book, there will be an expanded and re-recorded interview with Susumu Hirasawa, a musician who is indispensable for the director's anime.

This series is published as a unique commemorative project. Don't miss out on this valuable opportunity!
