Enjoy Kimono Patterns with cross stitch by Endo Saeko - Japanese Craft Book*

¥2,200

Release date: 2017/3/25
Language: Japanese
Paperback (soft cover): 96 pages

Following the popular "Enjoy Japanese Patterns with Cross Stitch," "Kimono Patterns" introduces designs based on Ise Katagami, a paper pattern used to dye kimono fabric.

In this "Kimono Patterns," ideas such as inversion and using two colors to fill in the blanks are also suggested. So, I didn't mind the spiky feel of the diagonal lines in the cross stitch.

The embroidery thread is DMC. I thought I might as well use one from a Japanese manufacturer, but there is a page of sample colors of the embroidery threads used in this book, and they are named after Japanese colors. The colors are named after colors similar to DMC embroidery threads. (Please note that DMC itself does not name the colors.) Akatsuki, Kokihi, Chitose Green, Hanadairo, Coral, etc. Versacraft, the stamp ink familiar from eraser stamps, also has designs with Japanese color names, and it's similar to that.

There is no center line in the design. But when you think about it, it's based on kimono dyeing stencils. Even the repeating patterns can have over 100 stitches, and they are originally patterns on bolts of cloth. So I interpret it as meaning that it doesn't matter where the center is.
