It was serialized in Weekly Margaret (Shueisha) from 1972 issue 21 to 1973, and was a huge hit. A national manga work by Riyoko Ikeda, affectionately known as "Berubara." It depicts the late Bourbon dynasty of France, from the end of Louis XV to the execution of Antoinette during the French Revolution.
It has become a social phenomenon with a stage adaptation by the Takarazuka Revue, a TV anime, and a movie version, and in recent years, ``Gaiden'' and ``Episode Edition'' have been written, and it remains extremely popular to this day.
