Fashion Design Course 9: Men's Wear 1 - Body Shape, Shirts, and Pants - Bunka Fashion College Japanese Version

¥4,100

Release date: 2005/6/1
Language: Japanese
Hardcover: 189 pages

The illustrations are easy to understand, and the drawings and corrections are easy to see. The explanations also include illustrations of the history of men's clothing, which was very helpful.

I think textbooks are good after all. They contain basic knowledge, such as how to place fabric when cutting (I didn't know the basics, like aligning the crease line with the vertical grain of the fabric) and how to iron trousers (this is quite difficult at the moment), so it's a good learning experience. I was reminded that while you can gather information on specific topics on the internet, the most important basic knowledge is often missing.

Most dressmaking books are for women or children.
Even if there was a book for men, I had a lot of trouble when I had to make corrections that deviated greatly from the accompanying pattern, because I didn't know what to do.
After trial and error, I realized that it was quicker to go back to the original.

This book is a rare resource that teaches you how to draw a men's pattern.
It was quite different from the women's pattern, and I was confused, but I managed to finish the pattern.

There is one part that is missing in the book.
That is the part about making corrections to the body shape of the pattern that you have drawn.
I proceed with things based on the balance of a young adult male.
In a sense, I think that men have more unique body shapes than women, but the explanation of just one correction method was not enough for me.

In the end, I looked up various sites on the Internet and made corrections to the original pattern.
I think this is probably information that you can only get by going to school.

Still, it is one of the few books that contains the prototype of a man and how to design and sew pants, and is also aimed at beginners (those who are just starting to learn).
