◎Special feature: Drawing rooms and buildings
In recent years, buildings drawn by illustrators, especially those that depict the interior in detail, have become popular. In this special feature, we interviewed five noteworthy illustrators who draw rooms and buildings, including Ida Chiaki, author of the hit book "People Who Like Houses" (Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha), Shioya Ayumi, Nonohara, IC4DESIGN, and Pecco.
Enjoy the fascinating illustrations that convey the lives of the people who live there.
◎The evolution of the cover illustrations in the magazine "Kenchiku Chishiki" and their appeal
The magazine "Kenchiku Chishiki" (Exknowledge) has attracted a great deal of attention and response not only from people involved in architecture but also from people who draw pictures, with its special feature project that gives a sense of its unique perspective. In this special feature, we will introduce covers from the past four years, and ask the illustrators to comment on the background of their creations and memorable interactions. We will also interview the editorial staff of "Kenchiku Chishiki" and the Nawada Kohei Design Office, which handles the cover art direction and design, to provide detailed information on the evolution and background of the creation.
◎My Ideal Room
What does an "ideal room" look like for an illustrator who spends a lot of time creating work indoors? This time, we asked six illustrators to draw their ideal rooms, whether real or imaginary.
Participating artists: Ikegami Yoriyuki, Nami Satori, Kashiwai, Tanji Yoko, Rokkakudo DADA, Goto Hinako (titles omitted)
◎Jon Klassen talks about his new work, "Skull."
Since its publication in April 2024, "Skull" (Switch Publishing) has been a hot topic. Compared to Klassen's previous picture books, this one has far more pages, and the translator, Shibata Motoyuki, also commented that "I think this book belongs to the category of his best works," making it a book that stands out in terms of story development and expression. In this special feature, Shibata and Miyako Michiyo, who designed the Japanese translation, talk about the publication process, production background, and the excellent expressions in this book.
◎Series "Illustrator Roundtable"
Osada Yuka x Murata Ryohei x Nakagawa Manabu
The theme this time is "What I think about when drawing historical works." We gathered Osada Yuka, Murata Ryohei, and Nakagawa Manabu, who are involved in the cover art and illustrations of the genre known as "historical works," including period novels, to talk about the difficulties of historical research and the ingenuity of their creations.
