[About the author]
A knitting artist from Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. He started knitting when he was a teenager.
He came to Japan in 1998. He currently lives in Yokohama.
He has researched the world's literature on knitting, including those in Tokyo,
He teaches at knitting classes all over the country. He has also released a number of original knitting kits.
In 2011, he launched ``Knit for Japan,'' which knits blankets to be delivered to areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
He is always looking for projects that contribute to society through knitting.
He loves motorcycles, and even when he goes touring, he carries his knitting tools and thinks about new creations and the possibilities of knitting.

[Comment from the editorial department]
Mr. Koestler's ``Spiral Socks'' were very popular because they did not have a heel and could be easily knitted straight to fit.
These mittens require even less yarn and are simpler to knit, so they can be knitted in less time.
This fall and winter, please knit for yourself, your family, your friends, and all the people you care about.
