Expanded and revised Latvian hand knitted mittens of Latvia - Japanese Craft Book

¥3,600

Release date: ‎ 2019/11/6
Language ‏ : ‎ Japanese
Book: ‎ 175 pages

Latvia is a country of forests and lakes on the Baltic Sea south of the Scandinavian Peninsula.
One of the Baltic states, there are lovely knitted mittens that have been handed down as a traditional craft.
Patterns knitted with very fine yarn vary from region to region, and the meanings of those patterns vary.

This book introduces the history, traditional patterns, delicate color schemes and techniques of Latvian mittens, and gives you the pleasure of knitting your own mittens.
The local knitting shop, the folk art market where you can enjoy Latvian handwork, and the collection of the precious museum are also introduced.
You can also enjoy the profile of people passing down traditional mittens, the simple and beautiful life of Latvia, and the walking around Riga in the capital.
The pattern of 26 mittens obtained at the site is shown.

*This book is an expanded and revised edition of "Hand Knitted Mittens of Latvia," published in October 2013, which includes 6 new works with easy-to-use designs that are popular among Japanese.
This is the latest work commissioned by Latvian ethnologist Marta Glassmane and the local TLMS (Latvian handicraft organization) in April 2019.
